As if it isn't already hard for an average 5-year old to obey and focus, we're finding it extra difficult to navigate some of these days before Christmas with our kindergartner. Holidays can often be a trauma trigger for little ones who've experienced what our guy has. So here we are, loving all the Christmas preparations and acting out too. God, give us strength and wisdom.
But I wanted to share something that's brought a lot of calm to our days - for both Brayden and for me.
I had picked up a few simple-to-put-together kits at half price one day before Thanksgiving, and I've been pulling them out during the babies' naptimes for Brayden and Mama to work on together. THEY'VE BEEN A GAME CHANGER FOR US!
Just about the time I'm ready to pull out the last of my hair over the challenging behavior we're trying to navigate and re-train - he and I can sit down and relax and bond over these. I wasn't even sure I should buy them because he's a boy and sometimes boys don't care about crafts. But this guy loves them. And they are easy enough for us to do together without stress!
As an added bonus, while we sit quietly and craft, Brayden often feels peace and safety and begins talking about what's going on in that little heart of his. He doesn't even know he's doing it...the words and memories just come out naturally.
Praise God for His constant provision! He knows what we need and He always provides. This time He is providing through foam reindeer and gingerbread men.
