As I shared yesterday, I had to make a tough decision. Since I was away from home, I was without all of my natural remedies that I would normally try for him first. Brayden's cough was miserable, making him puke, and keeping him (and his mama and the baby) from sleeping.
So I made the decision to give him some over-the-counter cough meds. Natural remedies are my go-to, always. But when needed, over-the-counter meds are there. And at this point, I felt they were needed.
They kind of helped, though not fabulously. (Ha, a few seconds after we gave him his first dose, he coughed and said, "Hey, I'm still coughing!" as if he expected to stop coughing and feel better immediately after taking it. Sweet boy.)
Overall, we did sleep a little better the second night. So yay for the meds, right?
Yes, except that Brayden woke up the next morning covered in hives. Poor guy.
Was it from the meds? Was it something else? Who knows? But it did seem directly related to the medicine he'd taken.
Sigh. The next option was to give him another med to counter what had been caused by the first med. And THIS is why I normally try to stay away from over-the-counter or even prescribed mainstream meds.
Regular meds may help, but they tend to just be a band-aid, and then they often cause other issues that call for other meds...
This makes me tired. We can do better than this. (Except for when you're on vacation by yourself with babies. Then you just do what you have to do.)
