After being a Boy Mom for so many years, I still marvel any time I use the word "daughter." I can't believe the changes God has brought about in our lives - bringing us so many bonus children. And not one but FOUR of them are girls.
Last night, Brayden wanted to help make dinner (something he's becoming more interested in all the time). While he was doing that, I called Kiya in to help me decorate a few cookies. We were heading out soon to deliver a meal to a mama with a new baby and I'm guessing that mama won't be making Christmas cookies any time soon.
While Kiya was decorating cookies, we talked about the family with the new baby and
our plans for the evening - load up everyone in the van, drop off a meal to the new mama, then look at Christmas lights on our way home.
I thought we were talking about food and Christmas lights. Kiya, though? She focused in on how we were taking the food to help someone. "Mama? I like helping make food to give to
people. Can we do this more often?"
Ah, sweet girl. Yes. She went on about how fun it is to make food knowing that someone else gets to be happy and enjoy it. "I bet they will love these pretty cookies!"
We have so many challenging moments with our tribe, but guess what? The hard work is paying off and we'll keep doing it. They are listening and they are learning. God is good and faithful.
