Yesterday we talked about breakfast.

We are gearing up to send the kids back to school. (Many of you are getting ready to begin a new homeschool year. I MISS THAT. Prayerfully, someday we'll homeschool again.)

I realized yesterday - like, when I finally took the time to read all the school info that had been sent home - that school starts in 12 days. Shoot, I should probably buy the kids some school shoes or something. I'd rather talk about food.

Anyway, here we are. We can talk about back-to-school stuff AND food at the same time. Yes, let's do that. Yesterday I shared some fantastic school morning breakfast strategies and recipes. Read all the great ideas here if you missed it. Today, let's talk about lunch.

Last year we did a cost breakdown and discovered that packing a lunch to send with our kids to school saves quite a bit of money compared to paying for them to eat a lunch at school. ( Even though school lunch cost is very reasonable.) We also found that our kids ate better when we sent a lunch, simply because they weren't always making great choices when they got to choose at school for themselves. Read: "No veggies or fruit, I got full when I ate my cookie."

Yes, it's more work to pack a lunch. BUT we came up with some very easy, very fun ideas and our kids never got bored with what we sent.

Here's a great list of hot lunches we sent with our kids in quality thermoses from Costco. (And yeah, I did the cost breakdown on those too because I like to geek out over this.)

Uncrustables!

Buy a little gadget and make your own Uncrustables. (Well of course I did a cost breakdown. I wanted to see how much it saves to make our own.) Also you'll discover a wonderful idea to use up all the crusts so they don't go to waste! I make a couple loaves of bread worth of these and put them in the freezer to pull out and pack.
